29th May 2021 @ 11:00 – 15:00
Join staff and volunteers at Sudbury Gasworks in supporting our local wildlife. We are spending the day building bird/bat boxes, bug hotels and hedgehog hides, and you can get involved.
For £7.50 per family, you can build your own bird/bat box (with support from our volunteers), and choose whether to take it home, or donate it to the Gasworks.
You can book a 1 hour table time slot to build/decorate your box, between 11am and 3pm. Tickets are for 1 bird/bat box, and will enable you to have a table for 1hour to build/decorate (up to 6 people per table). We will only have 4 tables occupied at any time to support social distancing.
Extra boxes can be purchased on the day.
If you choose to donate your box to the Gasworks, once restoration works on the building are complete, we will hang the boxes in trees surrounding the site with an allocated number, for you to come back throughout the year and check whether any animals have taken up residence.
We will also be building community bug hotels, hedgehog hides and planting trees – as well as self led scavenger hunts. These are all free drop-in activities throughout the day.
‘Transforming the Trent Valley’ with Staffordshire/Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, will also be on site, running their ‘Wildfamilies’ session, with a range of nature themed activities for £1 per child. Families are encouraged to explore, looking for bugs, follow a trail, create natural art and be active. Tickets for this part of the event can be booked via the link below.
